15 Minutes a Day to Outsmarting Your Resistance
My definition of resistance is – anything inside you that says No when your heart says Yes.

Your resistance could be fear, doubt, anxiety, procrastination, self-sabotage, worry, distraction, numbing out, escaping, avoiding, self-criticism, anger, boredom or any other state that gets in the way of you going towards what you really, really want.

What it takes is awareness.
But just generic understanding of resistance won’t be enough, because your resistance is unique. In fact, you even have a different resistance pattern for each goal you’re working on!
You need to actually track and see your own resistance patterns clearly so you can “catch them in the act”. That’s the very first step in the process of transforming your resistance into a powerful friend and ally.

But so many of the explanations out there make it seem like a mischievous child at best or an arch enemy at worst. These versions paint a picture of resistance that tells us we have to keep battling it forever.
And that’s just not true.
I started to study resistance in its many forms over 18 years ago when I started working for an international seminar company. As a co-facilitator of their 12 week programs, I would watch the students hit one inner wall after another when they tried to really change their lives.
Later, as a coach, I had the opportunity to experiment with many, many different views and approaches to resistance. But it wasn’t until I started to explore shadow work, trans-personal psychology, the Buddhist way of compassion and the mystic’s way of inner digestion that the pieces of a really effective process came together.
And, as a former molecular biologist, I became fascinated with understanding how the brain and nervous system help to create the self-protective patterns that we call resistance.
I came to realize that mapping and understanding your resistance is actually a powerful choice to get to know your true self more deeply, instead of just battling it.
